dougong
) are interesting sculptural elements in traditional Chinese architecture.
Deep beautiful hand carvings of a  palace, a bridge over a river, bamboo, a dragon and bats hanging upside down.
Depictions included folkloric characters such as a bats, flowers, deities and dragons, bamboo- as can be seen in this fine naturalistic carved piece.
The corbel measures approximately 15-1/2" (L) X 7" (H) X 5" (W) and weighs 5 lbs 11 oz.
It is in very good condition, showing wear consistent with a dating to the 19th century or earlier, including chips, scratches, cracks and wood decay.
