    Description

This is a 1/2 liter German stein dating to around 1890-1900. It is 6 3/4" tall at the top of the lid. The material is stoneware, salt glazed and colored cobalt and lighter blues. The front and side scenes all are drinking themed, with plenty of hops, grapes, and leaves for decoration. A saying in old style German script surrounds the bottom. It translates to: "Drink what is clear. Speak what is true. Love what is rare."
The stein has no chips, cracks, or dents. The pewter lid has a couple lighter spots at the top, but overall a nice patina and a handsome thumb-lift. The lid fits perfectly with no looseness. The inside is clean. There are no markings on the bottom.
